Two sets of launching gantry serve bridge construction in HK
02/09/2015

Two sets of balance cantilever & span by span launching gantries are working for erection of the project of Tuen Mum Chek La Kok – Southern Viaduct – MC10 in Hong Kong. The purchase order was signed with Freyssinet Construction Asia Ltd. in 2014.

The launching gantry (LG) in total length 200m is to be used for the precast segmental erection mainly using balanced cantilever method and span by span method for end spans(900 T in total). The maximum span length of viaduct is 100m, but maximum launching distance for the LG will be 80m due to hammer shape pier head. The launching operation will accommodate a complex movement and manoeuvring throughout the alignment of the viaducts which has curved spans (min. radius 200m) with the max. longitudinal gradient of up to 8% and max. cross fall of up to 10%.

The LG is to lift typical segment weight of 120 metric ton from barge with 40m lifting travel, main supports of LG should be suitable to allow the main truss to move transversely with a maximum offset of +/- 4m from pier axis.

It is expected that all erection will be finished in 2017.
